Germany
It’s difficult to describe your own country. Is Germany a beautiful country? Is Germany a good vacation destination? Are Germans friendly? Which cities and regions should you visit? What food should you try? How much time should you allow for a tour of Germany?
Curiously, we ourselves have not seen that much of Germany. There are still federal states we have never visited (such as Bremen) and quite a few tourist attractions we have only passed by (the Berlin TV Tower, Oktoberfest). Perhaps it is in the nature of travel that one dreams of faraway places and often fails to see the beauty that lies right on one’s doorstep. Perhaps this only applies to us – because statistics repeatedly show that the most popular vacation destinations for Germans are Germany and Spain (mainly “Germanized” Mallorca). Is this an indication of how beautiful Germany is? Hardly, because the French also prefer to spend their vacations in their own country (but at least on the Mediterranean coast), as do the Italians. In the end, it is holidays in their home country that allow most people to escape from everyday life and provide relaxation and recreation – without stressful flights, language barriers, or visa applications.
Instead of saying a lot about Germany, we decided to show scenes from Germany in all seasons. Pictures say more than words ever could. Finally, let’s try to answer the questions we asked ourselves at the beginning of this section:
Yes; it depends; not at first glance; Hamburg, Dresden, Berlin, Munich, and Saxon Switzerland; sauerkraut and currywurst; at least three weeks.
